An orchard wedding draped in marigolds in the California redwoods

Sarah and Steve’s private redwood forest wedding celebrated all of the things that the Bay area couple adore about Humboldt. The party began with a relaxed brunch on the beach and concluded with a golden hour ceremony at Mitchell Grove, an apple orchard nestled in a redwood groove

Mitchell Grove is a rare venue that feels isolated but the charming orchard is only a few miles from both Eureka and Arcata. Towering redwoods, fairytale apple boughs and a good chance that a family of ducks may waddle across your path on your way to grab a cocktail lend a peaceful and pastoral vibe. The venue was perfectly suited to the relaxed yet immersive experience Sarah and Steve wanted to offer their guests.

Summer is an ideal time of year for this redwood orchard. The sun sets low and golden and the property offers both a dance floor and two bar locations.

To make the most of the setting, the couple arranged a guided whiskey tasting through the redwoods prior to the ceremony. Guests followed a winding trail through the forest, stopping at stations tucked between trees where their favorite bottles paired with anecdotes from their relationship. It was a beautiful and personal way to welcome loved ones into the landscape and set the tone for the celebration.
